Hi Everyone!!

I'm planning my first visit to Manhattan over Memorial Day Weekend and need recommendations for a good local gay dance club.... but I'm looking for something a bit specific.

I would like the average age range to be between 25-35, I LOATHE house music so top 40 is preferable (seriously, I want to sing along ;o) and I'm not really wanting to see dozens of shirtless guys on the dance floor..... oh and I would like there to NOT be people snorting coke off the urinals.

so to sum it up....
-top 40 music
-not a huge drug scene
-everyone is clothed
-mostly people around my age (29)

is there anything like this in Manhattan... I figure there must be!?!?

Programming with Extra Gay!
Hey everyone,

I actually found this community shortly after creating the [info]gayplusplus community. It's a place for GLBT programmers to talk about technical jargon and lines of code. I'm liking the look of this community, but it seems more end-user oriented than coder-centric.

Anyway, I'd be honored if some people would come join Gay++ as well...

Uh...<3 to everybody?

Fuck
Fuck!

All of my laundry has gone missing from the laundry room.

All of it.

All of my work clothes, all my jeans, all the clothes that I wear all the time.

FUCK!

This month has been intensely tight (post tax day drop off), but this puts me way way way over the edge. I don't know what to wear to my client today. I have 1 towel.

Fuck.

Wireless Question
Good morning all.

I've been running my XPS desktop on a wireless USB key for a short time, I keep having problems with lag.

When the wireless connects it tells me that I'm running at 54Mbps but as soon as I access the internet or start running an online game it drops to 11Mbps.  I can't play any games with out serious lag.
Is this a limitation of USB2 or can I make some configuration changes?  I'll get a wireless NIC if I have to but I'm trying to avoid it.

Thanks in advance.
Greg

Having a plan?
I got this from an email list I'm on.

"I woke up this morning to find that my car was not
parked in the spot that I parked it last night. I
called the cops, and they said they hadn't towed it.

"Hmm...the only logical conclusion was that someone
took it illegally.

"I think this is all just a conspiracy to keep me from
contributing to global warming. I'll just have to
thwart their efforts by breathing more.

"I plan on being late to everything, from now on.

Having a plan is good.

My new Tattoo!

ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA.....

The rod of Asclepius (also known as the rod of Asklepios, rod of Aesculapius or asklepian is an ancient Greek symbol associated with astrology and with healing the sick through medicine. It consists of a serpent entwined around a staff. Asclepius, the son of Apollo, was a practitioner of medicine in ancient Greek mythology.

The rod of Asclepius symbolizes the healing arts by combining the serpent, which in shedding its skin is a symbol of rebirth and fertility, with the staff, a symbol of authority befitting the god of Medicine. The snake wrapped around the staff is widely claimed to be a species of rat snake, Elaphe longissima, also known as the Aesculapian or Asclepian snake. It is native to southeastern Europe, Asia Minor, and some central European spa regions, apparently brought there by Romans for their healing properties.
Origin

There are several different theories as to the origin and development of the rod of Asclepius, any or all of which may have contributed to its development. The symbol is named for an ancient Greek legend, although the legend could be older.

Greek mythology:

According to Greek mythology, Asclepius was said to have learned the art of healing from Chiron. He is customarily represented as a surgeon on the ship Argo. Asclepius was so skilled in the medical arts that he was reputed to have brought patients back from the dead. For this he was punished and placed in the heavens as the constellation Ophiuchus (meaning "serpent-bearer"). This constellation lies between Sagittarius and Libra. In early Christianity, the constellation Ophiuchus was associated with Saint Paul holding the Maltese Viper.

Inside Out Film Festival

I love this festival.
http://www.insideout.on.ca

Let's start the discussions!

What are you looking forward to seeing? Anything you've heard a buzz about yet?

As the festival gets going, what have you seen so far?

I'm lucky to have seen the closing gala film, "XXY" already and I really liked it.
I also saw "Water Lilies" at TIFF and recommend it.

I have a film in the "Hogtown Homos" program (Tranzploitation) so of course I'm excited about that screening. It's always a really good screening too, cuz there's so many friends and family there supporting.

I think I'm most excited about "Razzle Dazzle" on Friday the 23rd. It looks like a hilarious good time.

On Sunday the 18th I'm going to "On the Downlow", "Notes form South Africa", and "Dykes in the City"
Monday the 19th, I picked "Daddy's Love" and "Hot and Bothered"

I've heard a lot of good things about "She's a Boy I Knew" playing on Saturday the 24th. And later in the day it's the Queer Youth Digital Video Project which is always good.

Just for fun and to get people involved I have a ticket for "Hogtown Homos" that I'll give for free to the first person who responds with the answer to:
What anniversary is the Queer Youth Digital Video Project Celebrating this year?

CES and laptops
Okay, first the laptop. I have a three year old Compaq Presario R3370US. Best laptop I have ever used. Only recently has the internal DVD drive failed due to sheer use. I'm thinking of most likely buying a LG dvd-burner which can be run completely off USB. Of course, I'm wondering whether I should just buy a new laptop. One with a better discrete video chip/memory (64mb nVidia just isn't cutting it all that much anymore). I mean, I know that at some point the LCD screen is going to go (not there just yet), as will the hard drive. But I don't know when that will be, and whether I should pour money into replacing parts (like the DVD drive) as they fail. Thoughts?

Also, my bf and I are looking at possibly going to CES 2009. I have a cousin who works in IT and may have connections to get tickets for us (the bf and I barely work tangentially in consumer electronics). Apart from concerns about whether we'd be able to get in with tickets but no real consumer electronics connections other than we're just geeks, is it worth it? I remember that COMDEX used to be amazing in the day, but is CES worth it for the plain geek?

last night i came out to my linux user group via IRC. :) one person knew (via my launchpad page - i'm a member of ubuntu's lgbt group), but others didn't. people were pretty cool about it, though.

i feel much better after having told them - i had been debating about how to tell them for a while. i'm going to go to the LUG meeting this saturday, and see everyone there... maybe people will talk to me about it, but i'm not sure. i just want to go there so they can see that i'm not afraid to see them after having told them.

i would have come out to them in person, but i just never seemed to find a good moment. i'd say this worked pretty well.
